Raymond H. CypessRaymond H. Cypess, DVM, PhD
Chairman, CEO

Raymond is Chairman and CEO of ATCC and ATCC Global. In this role, he has demonstrated the ability to apply business acumen, fiscal responsibility and innovative approaches to the management of a non-profit/profit corporate structure. He holds a DVM from the University of Illinois and a PhD in parasitology from the University of North Carolina.

Prior to joining ATCC, Raymond was Dean of the College of Graduate Health Sciences, Professor of Microbiology and Immunology and Comparative Medicine, and Vice Provost for Research and Research Training, at the University of Tennessee, Memphis. He was awarded the University of Tennessee Memphis College of Medicine Outstanding Teacher Award for 1989–1993. Raymond has been an Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Microbiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health and Professor and Chairman at the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine.

Raymond participated on National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) scientific review boards and various NIH Study Sections and served on several editorial boards. He is the author of more than 80 chapters, reviews, and journal articles, a fellow in the Infectious Disease Society, and a member of the American Epidemiology Society. At ATCC, he has served as principal investigator on numerous grants and contracts, including the Malaria Research & Reference Reagent Resource Center (MR4) and the Biodefense & Emerging Infectious Research Resources Repository (BEI) from NIAID. He has served on boards of the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ corporations as well as Director and Treasurer of the Virginia Biotechnology Authority.


Barbie BigelowBarbie Bigelow, MS
Executive Vice President, Strategy and Technology

Barbie leads the prioritization and integration of new products, innovative technologies, and services into the organization’s portfolio to meet the needs of its global customers.  In addition, Barbie will work with the Senior Leadership Team on the execution of business plans to accelerate growth and expansion.

Prior to joining ATCC, Barbie led transformational change and strategic initiatives at major defense and government contractors, TASC Inc. and Lockheed Martin Corporation.  She served as the Chief Information Officer for both organizations in addition to senior leadership roles in Program Management, Logistics, R&D, Business Operations, Enterprise Services and Strategic Ventures.   Barbie is a member of the CIO Executive Council and is active in mentoring early career professionals and advising executives in new ventures.

Barbie holds a BS in Biology and Chemistry and a MS in Computer Science from the University of Tennessee.  She is PMP certified by the Program Management Institute and holds a Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt.


Ralph KochRalph Koch, BS, CPA
Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration/
Chief Financial Officer

Ralph leads and coordinates the financial programs for funding new and continued operations and administers all corporate-related administrative activities while working collaboratively with the senior leadership team in the diversification of corporate business interests.

Prior to joining ATCC, Ralph fostered continuous process improvements in finance, contracts, and operations as well as developed business strategies and capitalization plans at defense and commercial companies. He served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Aurora Flight Sciences Corporation, Regal Works, Inc., CardSystems Solutions, Inc., and Information Management Consultants. Prior to these roles, Ralph was an audit partner at KPMG in the Washington, D.C practice area.

Ralph is a certified public accountant and holds a BS in Business Administration from George Mason University.


Mindy GoldsboroughMindy Goldsborough, PhD
Vice President / General Manager
ATCC Cell Systems

Mindy oversees the ATCC Cell Systems (ACS) business unit which is located in Gaithersburg, MD. ACS was recently formed within the ATCC organization as an innovative product and technology development arm of ATCC. Its current focus is in areas of functional cell biology supporting basic and translational research. ACS is located in the Maryland High Technology Corridor to enable the site to be an active participant in the area’s well established biotechnology community.

Prior to joining ATCC, Mindy was with BD Biosciences as the Director of R&D in the Advanced Bioprocessing group of BD. Prior to that role, she held several positions of increasing responsibility within the BD Biosciences Bioimaging business (formerly Atto Biosciences), including Director of R&D. Prior to BD, she was at Life Technologies where Mindy lead efforts in several diverse areas including DNA-based diagnostics, stem cell biology, forensics and nucleic acid purification. Mindy brings over 25 years of product and technology development expertise in cell and molecular biology to ATCC; several products that Mindy helped develop during her career are still market standards today.

Mindy earned her Ph.D. in Genetics from The George Washington University and did her dissertation research and post-doctoral work at The National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute.

 

Bill Folkerts Bill Folkerts, MBA
Vice President, Sales and Marketing

Bill brings to ATCC experience in multiple disciplines including international marketing, business development, strategic sales, government contracting, program management, quality management, and scientific research. Throughout his 30 year career, Bill has held roles of increasing responsibility in several key global biotechnology firms and recognized academic institutions including Johns Hopkins University, Chesapeake Biological Laboratories, Becton Dickinson (BD), Life Technologies (Invitrogen), QIAGEN and Lonza.

Bill has experience in the following market segments: Life Science Research, Clinical Diagnostics, Pharmaceuticals / Biologics, Government Contracting and Applied Markets – Forensics, Food, Veterinary Diagnostics, Biodefense. His board experience includes Maryland Chamber of Commerce, AOAC Stakeholders Panel on Agent Detection Assays, Susceptibility Testing Manufacturers Association and Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute.

Bill is a graduate of Towson University and the University of Baltimore (part of the University System of Maryland) and holds a BS in Biology / Chemistry and a Masters in Business Administration.


Jim KramerJames Kramer, PhD
Vice President of Operations

Jim oversees the manufacturing, inventory/repository, supply chain, facilities, Quality Control/Quality Assurance, regulatory compliance and distribution of biological products worldwide.

Prior to joining ATCC, Jim acquired significant subject matter and operational expertise in the fields of biomanufacturing, supply chain management, regulated biologics, commercial operations, quality systems, and GMP-cell banking. He was Vice President at several global bioscience organizations including Immucor, Inc., Bioreliance, Talecris Biotherapeutics, and Serologicals Corporation, and held various positions at Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson Company.

Jim earned his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.


Teri SellarsTeri Sellars, SPHR
Senior Director, Human Resources

Teri  oversees all Human Capital activities for ATCC.

Before joining ATCC, Teri was Director, Human Resources, for Analytic Services Inc., a not-for-profit corporation which provides expertise to public sector clients in the arenas of national and homeland security.  Prior to Analytic Services Inc., Teri led the Human Resources function as a Director and Human Resources Business Partner for small companies and for divisions of larger organizations, including Convergys Corporation, Freddie Mac, Wireless Facilities, Inc., and WCI Communities.

Teri received her Bachelor’s Degree in French Business Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed a year of study at the University of Paris - La Sorbonne in Paris, France. Teri is a member of the National Society for Human Resources, as well as the Dulles SHRM and Northern SHRM chapters, and has served on the Board of the Dulles SHRM chapter.


Maryellen DeMarsMaryellen de Mars, PhD
Senior Director, Standards Resource Center

Maryellen oversees the ATCC Standards and Development Organization, which develops standards for biomaterials that meet International Organizations for Standardization (ISO) guidelines and are recognized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).  She will also direct the activities for the ATCC general collections and will work closely with the business units executing product and service development strategies. 

Before joining ATCC, Maryellen was the Chief Operating Officer/Vice President, Clinical Operations at United States Diagnostic Standards Inc. (USDS) with additional leadership experience at several for-profit and not-for-profit bioscience organizations including Gene Logic and Life Technologies. 

Maryellen earned her PhD in Virology from the University of Texas.


Kristina PetermanKristina Peterman
Senior Director, Compliance & Regulatory Affairs/CCO

Kristina oversees Compliance, Quality Assurance, Safety, and Security programs for ATCC.

Prior to joining ATCC in 1998, Kristina worked for a small bio-tech company in the development of investigational and in-vitro diagnostic test kits for the rapid identification of pathogens in poultry and the identification of emerging infectious diseases.  Prior to joining the medical device manufacture, Kristina worked for the poultry industry developing and implementing Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point and Total Quality Management programs in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture for the production and distribution of finished poultry products.

Kristina is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a study emphasis in Microbiology.


George VaseghiGeorge Vaseghi, MS
Senior Director, Information Technology

George oversees information technology for ATCC, aligning technology policy, solutions, and operations with current and future business requirements.

Prior to this position, George was the Director of Business Systems for ATCC, managing all application systems supporting manufacturing, cold supply chain operations, contract services, SG&A, and R&D.  Before joining ATCC, George was an Operations Research Analyst with the United States Marine Corps.

George received a BS in Agricultural Engineering from Cornell University and a MS in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School.


Miguel CarrionMiguel Carrión, MS
Director, BioProduction

Miguel oversees the management of ATCC’s manufacturing and supply chain activities in support of the production, preservation, inventory control and distribution of a wide range of biological materials for life science research, including cell lines, microorganisms, molecular genomics tools and other ancillary bioproducts.

Prior to joining ATCC, Miguel was part of Lonza Biosciences’ Custom Manufacturing division and served as a Senior Manager of Process Development for the Cell Therapy Business Unit.  Prior to that role he consulted for Principio Inc. as a Senior Director of Research.  Miguel also worked at GenVec as an Associate Director of Biochemistry, overseeing the development of novel viral vector-based therapies and vaccines, and as a Protein Chemist at the Medical Research division of American Cyanamid (now Pfizer) Lederle Laboratories. Miguel is an inventor on multiple issued US and EU patents.

Miguel received an MS in Chemistry and a BS in Zoology from Eastern Illinois University.
