Joseph Leonelli, Ph.D., Joins Executive Leadership Team at ATCC

Fills key position within government contracts and services

ATCC, the premier global biological materials resource and standards organization, is pleased to announce that Joseph Leonelli, Ph.D., joined ATCC as the Vice President for ATCC Federal Solutions (AFS). In this position, Dr. Leonelli will be responsible for the general management and business growth of AFS programs.

ATCC has a reputation for delivering high quality biomaterials and services to support scientific research and breakthroughs that improve the health of global populations. “Our role in delivering superior quality and support for biodefense programs and emerging infections programs for U.S. federal agencies continues to receive recognition from the agencies and partners that we serve,” stated Dr. Raymond H. Cypess, President and CEO at ATCC. “Joe brings deep knowledge and expertise to assess, innovate, and grow our solutions to meet the challenging demands of the federal government sector.”

Dr. Leonelli comes to ATCC with 30 years of experience in a variety of federal contract research and development market segments. Prior to joining ATCC, he was the vice president for National Security Systems and Solutions for Engility, where he managed three business units providing systems and software engineering to DOD, DOJ, and Intelligence Community customers. Dr. Leonelli held leadership positions at various entities within the Raytheon Company, Applied Signal Technology, General Dynamics, Battelle, and SRI International. He received a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Indiana University. His research and development experience includes chemical and biological warfare agent detection, remote sensing, and the forensic analysis of chemical and biological warfare agents from environmental samples. Dr. Leonelli is active with the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), Association of the US Army (AUSA), Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association (AFCEA), and Advanced Technical Intelligence Association (ATIA).

Dr. Leonelli will lead ATCC’s continuing efforts in the federal government contracts sector relating to emerging infectious disease, biodefense, medical countermeasures, and global health security.
