ATCC Brings on Dr. Shou C. Wong to Lead Microbiology Systems Business

Position supports strategy to expand in clinical, pharmaceutical and industrial sectors

ATCC, a global leader in biological materials management and standards, today announced the appointment of Dr. Shou C. Wong as senior director of ATCC Microbiology Systems (AMS). In this role, he is responsible for the overall strategy, management, and growth of AMS.

“Shou’s expertise in business development, technology transfer and scouting, and strategic partnerships aligns well with our growth strategy,” said Dr. Raymond H. Cypess, ATCC Chairman and CEO. “He has a proven track record in launching new products from start to finish and identifying early-stage technologies with biopharmaceutical and life sciences applications. His experience and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to enhance and expand our portfolio of reference standard materials in the clinical, pharmaceutical, industrial, and academic sectors.”

Dr. Wong joins ATCC from the Dow Chemical Company, where he was Advanced Diagnostics Platform Technology leader for Dow’s Microbial Control business unit. In this role, he developed Dow’s innovation pipeline for advanced diagnostic applications by leading the identification, analysis, development, and commercialization of new diagnostic sensors and assays for detecting harmful microorganisms in water, energy, and hygiene sectors. Dr. Wong’s previous work includes business development, technology scouting and technical sales roles at Merck KGaA/EMD Millipore and Thermo Fisher/Life Technologies.

Dr. Wong earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Microbiology from Georgia State University, and was a post-doctoral fellow at Washington University Medical School and later a visiting fellow at Harvard Medical School.
