ATCC® CRL-1730 vs. ATCC® CRL-2873
What is the difference between ATCC® CRL-1730 ™ and ATCC® CRL-2873 ™?

Both ATCC® CRL-1730 ™, HUV-EC-C, and ATCC® CRL-2873 ™, HUVEC-CS, are normal cells from a human umbilical vein. Neither CRL-1730 ™ nor CRL-2873 ™ has been immortalized, therefore both cultures have limited doubling potential. Endothelial Cell Growth Supplement (ECGS) and unidentified factors from bovine pituitary, hypothalamus or whole brain extracts are mitogenic for CRL-1730. On the other hand, CRL-2873 was derived from CRL-1730 by initially passaging in tissue culture plastic flasks without additional growth factors like ECGS.
